but even with this big announcement tomorrow, we still only have 140,000 visas and keep in mind USCIS has just been averaging about 100,000 per year. (so about 40,000 get wasted every year)
All all this does is to push the bottleneck further down the pipeline.
the only benefit I see is that it helps with filing of AP and EAD which does not help someone like me with my 485 already pending

In order to be sending consistent messages to all lawmakers, please email Varsha and Sanjay at varsha@immigrationvoice.org and sanjay@immigrationvoice.org respectively and get the material and talking points from them.

Actually, immigrating to Canada is quite simple if you are the right person that they are looking for (and from the qualifications that you described you are, trust me). Canada has a very low natality rate and their strategy is to grow through immigration. Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world after Russia, but it only has over 30 millio inhabitants. They are admitting roughly 250,000 new immigrants a year.
The first step is to take the eligibility test, which if you pass, it means that pretty much you are in (the rest is just paperwork). You can take the assesment online (as well as find a lot of information) on the CIC ("Citizenship and Immigration Canada) website at:

Many people use Canadian immigration attorneys to file their petitions, but you don't really need one (I started with oe and then fired them when I saw the process was so simple!)
After that they will as you for: police reports, a medical exam, to take the IELTS English test, etc. Finally, they will send you a passport request (it all takes at the most 1 year) and they will stamp your and your family's immigrant visas on your passports. The you have a year from the date of your medical exams to go to Canada and finalize the paperwork at the port of entry (land, air or sea port) and that's it.
What's really nice is that if you want/need to you can keep your U.S. job for up to 3 full years after becoming a Canadian permaent resident before you are required to actually move to Canada, which gives you great flexibility.

I will be sending the following note to my senator and have already posted it to WhiteHouse.gov. I urge all those screwed by the ongoing retrogression to do the same.
"I am writing to inform you of how the country based quotas imposed on Employment Based green cards are unfair and totally illogical. When I immigrated to the US, I believed that this country was a meritocracy where you were judged based on your abilities and qualities. These country based quotas reward people depending on where they or their ancestors were born. This causes people from India and China to wait over a decade to get a green card whereas someone from another country with similar or lesser abilities can obtain permanent residence in half that time.
Since these EB category based green cards are awarded for professional skills, imposing a country based quota just does not make any sense. I urge you to work with Congress and change this discriminatory policy and reinforce that America is truly a society that celebrates meritocracy."

H1B + GC holders pay SS + Medicare (??) for which they are entitled only when they become citizen.
Here are the SS eligibility requirements: http://permanent.access.gpo.gov/lps4345/11001.html
Based on this, GC holders with 40 work credits (that is, 10 years of US work experience) and reside in any of the 50 US states are eligible for SS, if they satisfy age and other requirements. So one doesn't need to be a US citizen to get SS benefits.
It's a different story that by the time, we all become 65, the SS coffers will be empty. Of course, I wish no one is in a position where they need SS to survive.

You did not read it carefully. The person actually NOTIFIED the USCIS about AC21. However, USCIS failed to record it.
"xxxx....The particular case has been issued a NOIR on the basis that the employer revoked the I-140 petition and there was no information on record indicating a qualifying position under AC21. In fact, in this case, the documentation pertaining to the new, qualifying position and portability eligibility under AC21 had been timely filed with the USCIS. ...xxxx"

...as some other folks here have suggested would be to get F1 first, and then get married. Will need to move on the F1 quickly (since it is already August), especially if she needs to do TOEFL/GRE/GMAT. Might also need to postpone wedding by a few weeks. This seems like the best option.

Final Q, how long it took from day1 of EB2 filing to filing I140 this week ?
My PERM was filed on 30th March, approved on Aug 11th, received approval copy on 18th Aug, and I-140 to be filed this week.
There was a lot of prep work involved before filing PERM in March. My employer agreed to start the process in Oct'09 and the lawyers started the ads in early Jan.
