Taking a plunge now on EAD is like drowning yourself. prices have not yet come down and will come down by 15-20 % over 5 years. there is talk about recession , job losses and more foreclosures. if you dont need the space ...DONT BUY. most of us dont need more space unless we have 2-3 grown kids who need their own rooms. renting is not same as throwing away money as you get a place to live. how does buying a home give you security ..it is more of a hassle if you are on EAD or H-1 and you need mobility after a job is lost. my friend who has good worldly experience rightly said ..buying a house now is like worrying about one more thing in life.

I think we need an IV movement to fix the Indian Consulates - They are absolutely pathetic - Lets get our house in order before we try to fix the USCIS !!! I understand your situation as i was there once. If you dont have insurance than your options are very limited. if you live in dallas county parkland hospital is your only choice. Parkland has a network of several clinics around DFW area. Every clinic has financial assistance department. You can visit any of those and they will setup a payment plan which is reasonable based on your income. You will visit them for all prenatal care and when the time comes for delivery it will be taken to parkland. and parkland is a very good hospital as well. beside parkland several hospitals also offer cash plans like RHD memorial at 635 but they will charge you close to 4k just for delivery day and if its a normal one. you will have to do prenatal at your own.

US considers 16years of full time or equivalent of full time education as Bachelors degress(12yrs school + 4 yrs college/universit degree). Even Indian Bachelors of 3 yrs(12yrs school + 3 yrs coll/Univ) is not considered to be equivalent of US Bachelors.
From what my attorney told me,
1)16yrs of education(US Bachelors)/Indian 3 yr bachelors & 2/3years of Masters + 5 years experience qualifies for EB2 category.
2)15yrs of education(India Bachelors) + 5 or more years of education qualifies for EB3 cateogry.
3)Not sure of Diploma
You have said you have 3 yrs diploma + 1 yr bachelors, I assume your total years of education is 14 yrs(10 yrs school + 3 years diploma + 1 yr bachelors/coll/Univ). This not even equivalent of Indian bachelors, you can substitute your job experience towards educational years. But I do not know whether that can be done for Diploma.

I opted for renewing the AP online on Sept 22,2009.Got the receipt at the same time, and next day which is Sept 23 i sent the supporting documents along with the cover letter,2 photographs ,confirmation receipt ,485 receipt, DL copy and passport copy from Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. Today when I tried to check the status on postal website it says that document scanned on Sept 23 which means they haven't reached the destination, now this concerns me because previously when ever I applied AP and sent the supporting documents they normally take 2 to 3 business days to reach.
Now my question:
1) If suppose the AP supporting documents get lost in mail then can I send the documents again and if in the mean time postal service delivers the first set
In between I see soft LUD's of 9/28 on my wife AP

If you go there with 2 forms of id , plus the 485 notices that is fine.
Things to ask
1. back ground check is cleared or not
2. pre adjudicated
3. Is there any other thing holding up your case.
Probably we have to give a complaint against the agent id, what ever the cases went up him he is giving the same message.

My point is it does not do a damn thing for us workers personally. That money will dissapear into a dark hole in the Indian Gov't coffers instead of a dark hole here, further as the rules stand, I have a slim chance of getting the money from here through social security payments when I turn 65 even if I am in India. Try that within the money in Indian gov't hands.
On the other hand, it makes the Indian gov't allign with corporate america, as they all have a vested interest in a Temp. worker program such as H1b absent green cards. Which will be a win win for all concerned except us.

Are they still talking about increasing H1Bs? That will create a bigger mess and those new H1Bs will have to wait 20 years before they can apply I485. Hopefully those who wish to come here as H1B will know the reality and won't be "trapped" as some of us have.

Recently a friend of mine visited us in Houston and the purpose of his visit was that he surrendered his passports after getting his American Citizenship and waiting for the surrender certificate. As the first step, it would be a great idea to write a list of issues that we all face collectively. The issue must be genuine and real without looking at the emotional angle or with attitude. Do we want to do something to fix these issues?

I do have very different experience. I never had any issues with the indian consulate. couple of months back I have sent the papers for my daughter's PIO card. With in two weeks I got the PIO in mail.
