I agree with the reasons behind it, now that I know it.
Just so, everyone understand, I am not trying to find fault with IV or its members. I am trying to do, what you can call, soul searching.
We have around 25000 members. Why only 25000, when we know there are millions out there in the same boat. What is stopping them from joining IV and contributing? Of all these 25000 or so members, we only have around 4000 letters sent for Admin fixes.(May be I am wrong about this number, but I believe it is around that range.) What is preventing the others from doing so?
I strongly believe, that the answers to these questions might help IV in the long run, with more members and possibly more active members. Once we get to that point, IV will no longer be an organization, but it will be a MOVEMENT. Chances of success for a movement is always better than that of an organization. That is what I believe we should try to achieve. I hope everyone agress with that.
Thanks

Yes, this is a conversation.
A growth to 25K members from 5K is an amazing five folds over a period of around two years. Having said that, there is tremendous scope for future growth. I will let Waldenpond define that, if need be.
IV's focus is defined by you, our members and the larger macrocosm of high skilled legal immigrant community. We need help and guidance from our members to achieve success with issues like what jnraajan mentions above.
Just to temper that thought. Using democracy as a metaphor, it would be great to have all the citizen participate and vote in elections but as we all know that is not the case. We might not have the million strong membership yet and if we use the pareto rule of 80:20 then I believe that we do have the "critical mass" to facilitate change. Change to the currently broken immigration process for the high skilled legal immigrants to USA. Lets marshall our existing resources and deploy them effectively to achieve success. We need your active participation for that.
IVers PM me if you are interested in volunteering, we can talk over the phone too. Let me know.

I'm not sure if anyone knows but that is what Ronhira does. Hijacking the topic, calling everyone anti-immigrants is his forte'.....don't waste your time in replying to him.

If you have secure permanent job with a solid Company,it is better to buy a home. I have a well secured job and I bought the house back in 2002. Home prices were less in 2002 compare to 2006.
But, if you are a consultant or working for a small company ,it may be better to wait till you get GC. But remember one thing, even if you get GC or Citizenship,if you loose your job and have a big mortgage to pay off,you will be in big trouble to make the monthly payment. This is true for even US Citizens !
But, if you are optimistic and ready to take some risk, you may be making some Good amount of profit in the future ! I was very optimistic and took some risk in 2002 and now I am in a Safer Side ! Think about it
Buying a house is a risky proposition on H1 specially considering the fact that if one is laid-off and needs to relocate within a short-time then one may end up loosing money. Besides getting into the hasseles of home maintainence is trouble-some and expensive and probably not worth the time and effort if one is uncertain about their future in this country.
Having said that if an individual is good at taking calculated risks and has a secure job then rewards are truly exceptional. I would rather wait atleast till the time of filling I-485 before making any long-term investments in this country. I know lot of my friends are probably going to do the same.
Good luck.

Today 10/16/2007 there is another update. Why is USCIS looking at my old H1B approved in August 2003 for an employer I left in 2004? I am perplexed!
Again today there is an LUD (10/15/2007) on the below quoted H1B petition. What is going? The status remains approval notice sent, however.

I don't know why but we tend to be satisfied with lsmall benefits...
I agree with you "something (EAD and AP) is better than nothing"
But i bet you ..you will find your self in the same situation of agony and endless waiting for the final Green card.
I bet most of the people don't use your ead and AP as it puts you in a gray "Adjustment of status". They are good to have though. But you will see...how painful it is to decide to use them or not..
What i want to say is that being able to apply for EAD and AP is not the end of the battle..you will be stuck in a depressing situation waiting for the final green card. How do i know? .. I went through it...waiting for GC for the past 4 years.
I dont know its FBI or its just the USCIS incompetence but waiting in the final stage is horrible. Every time you travel you are scared...AP as for as my lawyer goes IT does not guarantee 100% entry in to the country.
After you apply for AP its only 1 year H1 increments.
What i am saying why dont we try for the overall improvement of the GC processing. Why dont we be firm about not wasting the GC numbers and recapturing the unused numbers.
We had a small revolt (peaceful way) and its successful. We dont want to stop there.
LETS FIGHT FOR THE OVERALL IMPROVEMENT OF THE GC PROCESSING
I hope you guys are with me..looking for your comments

Ken Calvert California 44'th District
Spoke to a lady named Rebecca, she sounded like she was not happy that she is receiving many calls from IV members. She was trying to tell me that she has received the message and will pass it on to Rep, but further calls are not going to help.
Once I asked her "Are you suggesting that we (IV members) should not be calling your office regarding this important bills", she toned down a bit and took my message.

Question for people who understand Washington better than me.
Do we really have to ask for the person who handles legislative and immigration matters or it is ok to leave message to the person who answers the phone? I guess the answer is its better to talk to the person who handles immigration matters, but as per my observation, immigration person in representatives office deals with any immigration issues related to constituents.

Thanks ak27... based on your suggestion, I have started enquiry on my case through congressman.
I also talked to second level I/O and she told me that it may be due to pending biometrics (what a relief to hear that). She didn't give me any other details so still not sure what's going (no SLUDs yet). I haven't recd any finger print notice since my first one in sep'07 so that kind of makes sense.
I had a infopass appointment today, IO informed me that my fp expired so that may be the reason for not approving I-485. He told me that my application had some activity on July 29. Later I contacted my congressman's office and they informed me that my fp will be refreshed and I dont need to take new fp.

All our I485 applications had a soft LUD of today. Recently I applied EAD for my son and it got approved within 15 days. One of my friends got LUD and later (after 2 days) a Hard LUD that they sent an RFE. Our SC is Nebraska. some of my friends also had got Soft LUD 2 weeks before but no change inside... Not sure what is awaiting us. Hopefully its all pre-adjudication. Any insights will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Current US Immigration laws create, long delays for LEGAL, highly skilled immigrants, in getting their permanent residency. These immigrants pay their dues. When you'll address their concerns or you'lll continue to punish them for following law?"

I'm thinking of buying Atlas America Comprehensive with $100 deductible for my Mom. It's coming out to be $991.00 for 6 months approximately.
Friends, if you have any complaints about Atlas or much favorable things to say about other insurance companies, Please suggest me.
Best!
Took Atlas America due to their "acute onset of pre-existing clause". Mom got pneumonia 3 weeks after coming to US in April last year. They declined to cover hospital bills saying it is a pre-existing condition. Doctor's opinion was she acquired it due to cold weather and highly improbable for someone to have it not get sick for 3-4weeks. Insurance did not care. Still paying the bills.

Six key Congressmen and Senators
Washington and NYC, Tuesday, May 01, 2007
HLG will be traveling to Washington DC for a meeting Wednesday with a Senators lead staffer on immigration. The Senator is one of the six people who we have regularly mentioned as key on this issue.
The meeting was set-up by one of our best clients. The purpose of the meeting is to impress upon the Senator's staffer the importance of a bridge bill to end immediately Schedule retrogression. This is the fifth different HLG staffing company/facility client who has successfully set-up such a meeting in the last six weeks.
We are guardedly optimistic that a bridge bill can be passed in the near term, in spite of Congressional leaders apprehension. As we have previously mentioned there is an inverse relationship between the likelihood of a bridge bill and CIR. To some degree this is understandable Congresses overall goal is to pass a major immigration bill that solves many needs, not just healthcares desires.
After the Washington DC trip, we head to New York City for our Annual Symposium. We currently have full registration for this event. We look forward to seeing everyone. Well try and post over the next few days, although that may be impossible in light of the travel plans. In the meantime, if anyone has any connection with the Big Six, please try and set up an appointment. HLG will surely attend and advocate.
Here are the six key Congressmen and Senators:
Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)
Sen. Edward Kennedy (D- MA)
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL)
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY)
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)
Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA)

Anyone wh0 has doubts on where big corporations stood on issues like VB fiasco need only look at this:
http://fdbl.com/resources/priorityfaqs.shtml
under Q11 pn chances of reversal, this is what they say "However, the probability of relief is remote and the form of relief is uncertain.
FRAGOMEN and the American Council on International Personnel (ACIP) will continue to work with the government at all levels for some kind of relief, but again the form of any potential relief is uncertain."
Why is the above important? Because it's a window into their mindset. Like any responsible corporate firm they wanted to sound a little empathetic but didn't want to give false hopes by saying a reversal was possible though they probably knew the outrage among potential filers who had been dealt a nasty blow below their belt. But VB disaster was one issue where there was not even the slightest doubt that what had happened was horribly wrong and cruel that even some cold-hearted anti-immigrants were confused for a day or two and didn't know what to say because they didn't want to pile on our heartache. The way CIS works had, like any bureacracy over time become a cold and heartless beast but since they deal mostly with non-citizens who have little rights and feel so unsecure and unwelcome in the first place to ever speak out, they were never going to know how their actions are wreaking havoc on their customers lives. So unless affected people come together and act they are never going to know how bad it sucks to be on this end of the divide. And ofcourse it's not all CIS - they are just an arm of the government carrying out the law. it's going to be next to impossible to do anything without congress stepping in. And while Fragomen is definitely not lying when they say they will work for some relief and probably are given that their partners often show up on congressional hearings, they won't lose sleep over it nor will their passion levels be anywhere near that of those who are directly at the receiving end of this current ugly messi.e iv and it's browsers. That's why it's critical that iv be heard - & not just through flower campaigns. ofcourse bringing together immigrants was always going to be like herding cats but it shouldn't be this hard. give money people!

Have you ever seen the Moron in real life...go and see the mirror. I have asked you the website as I didnt want to assume and your name 'Sheila' resembles the Sheila from an evaluation agency. She used to say the same thing Ask your attorney to get it evaluated. Obviously you didnt want to answer my question. Still I was saying ' I was suspecting'.
Now do you understand Who the real Moron is.?
No cursing, name calling please.. You could have just ignored. You have done no favour to yourself by replying.

if flowers campaign was a grand success, why not try this?
There is nothing to lose
Flower Campaign - Smart Strategy - Hence grand success
This - Foolish and crazy thought... forget strategy... Photo on a Grand Children's wall with garland(shoes) on it.
I sense " lost mind" just reading about this idea... So that is the start point for you to count what will be lost if this is done.. You or any other can add up other piles on top of that..

You raise a very valid point. It is not as if these consulting companies are subsidised by the US govt to provide welfare to poorly qualified aliens - these companies are surviving and thriving in a free economy. This tells me that either (a) these consulting companies do a good job for their customers, despite the "cooks", "maids" and "servants" posing as software engineers or (b) There is a large enough demand for these skills that the clients cannot find enough qualified locals to hire on a full-time basis; hence go in for these "body shops".
Now, the unfair practises that these consulting companies indulge in are legendary - I am not here to defend them. All I am saying is there is an economic vacuum somewhere that is being filled by these body shops - something that Dobbs-ian minded folks will not acknowledge. Ands lets face it, a lot of our spouses on H4 would not have been able to work if not for these desi companies willing to sponsor an H1. Now whose fault is it that in 21st century america there are laws that condemn these people to staying indoors ?
It is obvious that the article is overblown and made to sound like all immigrants are surviving on the munficence of the american welfare state -typical anti-immigrant stump speech. Whatever their pros and cons of these desi companies, lets leave the drum-beating to these anti-immigrants. Because their solution - stopping all immigration - does not work for us, to say the least.
There is one more thing that not many people are aware of.
Let me ask eveybody. Even after all this, why are these Desi consulting companys successful in the market? They have poor quality product (People with forged Resume), they are not charging lower rates, but still they are able to put there people in Projects?

@hpandey thanks for standing by me, and more so i will not bow down even if INS were tracking me down , what have i got to lose, its the time for the consultants to lose his business and his money, and i will not stop here as i said , i will make sure google search on him always opens the blacklist page before his company website.
@fide-champ i have tried options that could be open to me till the brink and believe u me if they were there i would be the first to grab it, i have tried attorneys, i have tried references, i have tried many options , given 15 interviews of companies and sat on that interview table from 9 to 5:30 PM , but only after realizing that it wasnt going anywhere and i had blown my dough i realized , its better that i leave.
@Robert Kumar yeah ofcourse, even if they were to what could possibly go wrong more than what it is right now, not afraid buddy not at all
If a company is willing to hire you for an available position, they can still hire you and file a I-129 with consular processing option, just like your current H1. Once thats approved, you will have to appear for a VISA interview again in your home country (at the consulate mentioned on your application). Whether you will be given a VISA or not will depend on the documentary evidence submitted and your H1 history. Be prepared to answer questions regarding your current H1 saga which will definitely raise some flags on your current company at the Consular post as well but unfortunately could have negative impact on all current genuine employees at the company, if your current employer is found guilty. You can claim ignorance, but there is a chance that you could be banned as well for VISA fraud (paying for H1).

I read through the bill but don't quite understand...if I am working for a client on H1B, will I need to stop working as soon as this bill takes effect? or it only applies to newly applied H1B's (or extension/transfer)?
Yes, that is my understanding at this point based on the language . As soon as the bill goes into effect, you will need to stop working at the client site if the bill passes in its current form AND you are working as a FT employee (w-2) of a mere placement company (aka agent or desi consulting). If you are an FT employee of big consulting company then until they get waiver for you AND your current client proves that no layoffs were done at the client site in the last 180 days, you will need to stop working.
