"USCIS is currently aware of approximately 47,000 applications for permanent residence (I-485) cases that are otherwise approvable but for the fact that an FBI name check is pending."
1) 47000 (primary applicants or with the derivative applicants) ?
2) "Otherwise approvable" Does this mean that these cases have PDs prior to current cutoffs ? Or are they just saying that the application can be approved but have to wait for a visa number when the PD becomes current?

All,
This is a very good news that I have heard since last July. I am not sure if MBA's will also be condidered as part of this bill. I have paid around $90 K from my pocket, to get my MBA from Duke.
If that is the case then I would recommend that anyone who has any kind of support from their employer (or even without it) should get a masters degree as soon as possible. This will not only increase our value but will also shorten the queue.... just my 2 cents.

I have been following "Doggys" stuff and anti-anti blog for a while and know that he's not an anti for sure, and before anyone gets paranoid and accuses me of being "doggy" no sire i am not:p
Thank you!!
Sometimes paranoia gets the better of us.
I have access to a lot of "extra" stuff, as you can tell from the blog. It has been a long and tiring fight, but someone has to do it.
RonHira did a pretty accurate transcript. The funniest part was the way Donna was talking to the folks there. It seemed very much like the way a PreSchool teacher talks to her class. She was speaking slowly, repeating stuff multiple times, adding extra emphasis on phrases (like "talking point") and repeating them. Then someone would suggest something and she will go "That is a perfect post", and then he/she will try to say something, and Donna would go "No No, what you said first was perfect, don't deviate".
I was feeling bad for the Antis.

Following is Ron`s observation
.
There is an error in the initial explanation of the quota. As I read this analysis, they are suggesting that the single state limit is 25,620 - irrespective of whether the visas are issued in family or employment based. This suggests that a country with heavy family based demand, but light employment based demand, could use more than 7% of the EB or FB quota as long as they remained under 25,620 overall. This is wrong. The 7% limit applies independently to FB and EB. A country could have no demand in one area, and enormous demand in the other and the side with the excessive demand would still be limited to 7% of that quota - not 7% of the combined quota.
Also, I think that their estimates for China and India EB2 are too pessimistic.

Press Release
Rep. Lofgren Introduces Bill to Retain International Talent
Bill Would Allow Best and Brightest in STEM Fields to Stay in the United States.May 14, 2008
Washington, D.C. Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) recently introduced H.R.6039, which would allow masters and Ph.D. level graduates from U.S. universities in science, technology, engineering, and math to obtain green cards without waiting in long lines, if they have job offers from U.S. employers. The measure enjoys strong bipartisan support, initial co-sponsors include: Reps. Chris Cannon (R-UT), Michael Capuano (D-MA), Chris Carter (R-TX), John Conyers (D-MI), Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Tom Davis (R-VA), Anna Eshoo (D-CA), Wayne Gilchrist (R-MD), Mike Honda (D-CA), Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Jim McDermott (D-WA), George Miller (D-CA), David Reichert (R-WA), Linda Sanchez (D-CA), Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), John Shadegg (R-AZ), Adam Smith (D-WA), and Ellen Tauscher (D-CA).
More than 50% of the graduates from U.S. universities in masters and Ph.D. programs in science and engineering are foreign born, noted Rep. Zoe Lofgren. If we want our economy to continue competing in the global market, we have to retain these foreign students so they compete with us instead of against us in other countries. These men and women are the innovators of tomorrow, and we arent the only ones looking to retain their talents. Increasingly, employers from Europe, Australia, Canada, and even China and India, are beating U.S. employers for valuable talent. In 2000, for example, 75% of the worlds engineers were hired by U.S. employersjust six years later in 2006, that percentage dropped to 63%. This legislation will give U.S. employers another tool to recruit the worlds best and brightest.

Pappu,
As DOS has posted the NVC backlog numbers as on November 1, 2009, if the core team look at it and update the analysis. This data is not categorized via month but still may be helpful in prediction.
Thanks

Look at the state of affair of Tri State, thousands of people like these but only 25 so far signed up for DC rally. Not enough to fill even one bus WHAT A SHAME![QUOTE=plassey;152466]
I don't think you get a sense of his problem, even though you claim you do...you are in fact beating a dead horse...I got your point regarding IV's efforts, and am not disputing that one bit, but at the same time when someone posts a valid concern/issue that they have, it doesn't hurt to have some empathy....I'm sure you wouldn't be too happy if you were in their place....

About 2 weeks back Murthy posted an article in it's bulletin "new AC-21 regulations expected soon" http://www.murthy.com/mb_pdf/050208_P.html which i believe was a result of some discussions USCIS had with AILA?
Now is this new AC-21 memo released today the one being referred to in the above mentioned Murthy bulletin? OR i should still hold my breath for more AC-21 changes coming from USCIS, so they can jeopardize status of people by changing their interpretation of laws every now and then? Anyone?
From Murthy:
AC21 Regulations under Revision
The liaison notes made brief reference to an AC21 regulation being under revision, with publication expected in the near future. AC21 became law in October 2000 and has been interpreted through a series of Legacy INS and USCIS memos, rather than regulations. There have been previous announcements of anticipated regulations on AC21, so it is unclear whether something is finally in the offing.

I'm not sure how voting on this site is going to improve the chances of this bill. It is simply an application site 2 companies have created. It does not do us any good by voting on such site. It is like voting on petitiononline site annonymously. Pls help me understand the benefits if I am incorrect in understanding this site.
As mentioned earlier, If people really want to do something, Join your state chapter ASAP. We are planning a massive campiagn in the near future. The decision to pursue it will depend on the strength and execution by chapter members.

If you are replaceable then you have false claimed in your application that no American is available for your job. It defeats your H1B and Green card application. America invites H1Bs and gives them greencards not because they are paying taxes but because employers prove no american is available for our job and we have unique skills for job. 'Best and Brightest' is we are and USA needs us. Without us the economy will be more bad.
You must be dumb. Did you read the whole sentence and if you cannot comprehend what I am trying to say, you must be incapable of understanding it. I said in TODAYS WORLD. The world is changing very fast. GC process takes 10 years now.
I am sure whatever technology you are working on, there are 100 more people capable of filling that position as of now. So, even your so called skilled position can be filled within few days. USCIS interprets even today, what the conditions were at the time of filing. Not what the current job/wage or labor market conditions are.

Similar situation here...applied EAD/AP renewals 1st week of May at NSC for self and spouse. So far only my EAD has been approved, which is pretty much of no use to me since i am on H1B - but employer was paying all costs, so the law firm applied it anyway.
Spouse needs EAD ASAP before expiry, but nothing yet. I want to modify wht u quoted below:
"USCIS won't give u what u want" I think they somehow have an idea of how desperate u r for someting and ur processing/wait time is proportional to your desperation. :-)
E-filed on May 5th, FP on June 6th, no updates since. Concerned as I'm working on EAD and current one expires August 29th.
Paper filed AP in late June, approved already (as per e-mail) even though I only needed it in mid October!!
Just like the the old Stones song... "You can't always get what you want"

You may be able lodge a complaint at your district attorneys office. you have to find your local DA's details. If you are from one of the coasts the chances of your DA's office having a section for immigration related complaints is high.
I agree. You should contact the office of the district attorney and ask for help prosecuting your employer for financial fraud. Also change your job immediately to avoid any further trouble.
By law your employer can not fire you for being a whistleblower but since he is an unethical moron, he can stoop to any level

many other states including mine has this requirement after 9/11. They require latest(within 1 month) employer letter saying what my name and address is and I work for them.
I have used it atleast 3 times before.......
When I went for renewal in MD, I was asked "Do you have $30?"....That plus about-to-be expired DL got me a new license valid for five years.

Dear friends:
As the Past President of a PMI Chapter (PMP for the past 10 years and working in the field of Project management for the past 15 years) let me shed some light to this query.
Reasons why you should do PMP
1) If you believe you need a promotion, new job or rise the corporate ladder within the field of IT or management, take PMP.....Billing rate of PM's is $90-150/hr for consulting, full time could be from $100K-$250K. The next generation CIO's will be highly qualified PM's.
2) Job security for PMP's. The only job that will not be outsourced to India or China is that of a project manager.
3) PMP will help you get the project manager job, if you do not have one. However, become a Project Manager only if you like working with people. Trust me, if you hate politics and hate managing people, it is better for you to stay a techie. Your life will be miserable if you do not like managing people. Do something that you enjoy, rather than what you may hate. It is all about people and people management, rather than project management in the world of PMP's
4) PMP has become mandatory for all large gigs or projects. Small projects do not need PMP's and small projects do not pay well too.
5) PMP does not make you a better project manager. But PMP is needed by the industry. It is the experience that one gets from being on the field from different industries that makes one a good project manager.
I hope this should help some of you to make a decision to be a PMP or not.
Well Said FinalGC
