Dont even think about it unless you are a quant and have resources that can compete with the Hedge funds. Commodities do not behave like stocks, you need to be able to model prices using multi variate models. Then there is jumps. You should be familiar with jump diffusion/step functions etc. To be able to model these you will need to use a factor model like the Pilipovic model. Even then it will only be an approximation.
Commodities are purchased as futures. Futures are derivatives and you will need to hedge them. A perfect hedge for a future is 1:1 in the spot. Since there is no arb here you will have to use options. To model the price of an option you will have to be a master of Black-Scholes option pricing model or a similar method like monte carlo simulation. Even if you figure all this out you will have to delta hedge. Delta hedging commodity options is very expensive, you will bleed money. Look up Hodges-Nuberger model for delta hedging options on derivatives.
I suggest a book by Daragana Pilipovic called "Energy Risk", buy it and read it. After that if you still feel you can take on hundreds of computers running parallel with teams of quants modelling prices and programs trading algarithimic models; then Good luck!!
Trade stocks as modelling stocks is comparitively easy. Stocks have drift (mu). If you are saturated with stocks look into options and Fixed income. Leave all these complicated stuff to the pros. You have better chance of hitting a jackpot in a casino than making money in trading commodities.
Wow, smisachu summarized the issue in 2 paragraphs !! Great post smisachu.
As smisachu pointed out for futures, forwards or options trading you will be going against the pros. Hedging is also not a static process, it is dynamic which means you need scale(lots of money) to trade. Unless you have lot of money and big heart for loss, it does not make sense to play in those markets. If you really want to try, try playing with options using optionsExpress or some other cheap trading website.
Now fundamental investing is different. Instead of directly playing with commodities you can play commodity stocks which are proxy for the commodity. The issue here is there are a few big players and bunch of small players. Small plays are too risky as most of them have resources outside US. You might be able to play big ones or medium sized ones. Have a look at companies like COP, EAC etc. You might be interested in looking at Canadian oil sands and trust plays.
Let me warn you about the volatility. As covered by smisachu, the pros can manipulate the prices in futures. Futures seem to be affecting spot a lot. Oil prices or any commodity can be very volatilile. So if you can't take 10% swings in days/hours, don't even think about commodity stocks !!
Personally I am long bull of oil and will stay like this in forseable future. I have interesting stories on my boom and bust experiences but that is a good beer talk :).

This bill is in House judicial committee for markup only. This bill is not tabled on house floor yet. Even after markup and voting, this bill still needs to be tabled on house floor. If it gets approved there, similar measure S3414 will be brought to Senate floor for voting.

Once the Break is Over in 2nd week of September, We all should call members of congress , as many as possible, to get their Support for Visa Recapture Bill. If that bill passes, it will help all the EB categories.
Chances of this bill passing through all the steps are very slim in this year.

I guess USCIS is getting pretty smart. To be a plaintiff in the lawsuit, your application has to get rejected. By holding your application, it is probably preventing you to be a plaintiff. Smart F***ing A**es
It does NOT need to be rejected. It can be rejected, or, there is a reasonable expectation it will get rejected. This is established by USCIS press release that they will reject all applications. Thus, the applications can sit there and the lawsuit will move forward.

in the past lou also made comments that h-1 bs don't pay taxes... which we know is far from truth.
you should inlcude this in the petition
I believe you, I have heard this as well. Although I don't remember watching the show. If you point me to the show on utube I will certainly include it. I can't include statements without adequate proof. Thank you for your support.

Please refer [URL="http://www.laborimmigration.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/AILA-Memo-Seeking-Revokation-of-Neufeld-Memorandum.pdf"]AILA memo (http://www.laborimmigration.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/AILA-Memo-Seeking-Revokation-of-Neufeld-Memorandum.pdf) as they have already detailed the law points in it.
Did you even read my post and the pdf link. BTW, pdf link refers to Aug 21st, 2009 much before this memo came out. Even if memo is withdrawn, how that is going to change the points agreed by the court?
Here is the pdf link again

I suggest that you go thru pdf links in my other posts for this topic. All these decisions refer to issues pertaining to H-1B working at the end-user client thru multiple layers. This memo does not make any difference that way. Like I said before, this memo just make the interpretation public knowledge.
Why these H-1B cases have been denied in last years and why these denials were not reversed by appeal court? These answers should enlighten you.
Just harping "illegal memo" does not change anything.

It may not look as bad but this is a time to step back and take a better look on every step moving forward. This is a very testing time for the economic outcome in the next few months. A very sad episode to have come upon an Indian family my heartfelt condolence to them.

WASHINGTON: Multiple gunshots echoed in the upscale home of an Indian family in a quiet, gated, suburban Los Angeles community last weekend, echoing the troubled times in America.
When police turned up on Monday morning after calls from a concerned neighbor waiting for a carpool ride, they found the body of 45-year old Karthik Rajaram, an unemployed financial adviser, lying in one room with a handgun he had used to shoot himself dead.
With him lay his two youngest sons Arjuna (7) and Ganesha (12), both shot dead. In different rooms across the house they found the bodies of Karthik’s wife Subasri (39), his mother-in-law Indra Ramasesham (69), and his eldest son Krishna (19). They all appeared to have been shot to death by Karthik Rajaram.
Police also found two suicide notes – one for the cops and one for extended family and friends -- and a will. In them, Rajaram he spoke of his financial difficulties and took responsibility for killing his family members, police said.

I am sorry guys, but I was only able to read through the 1st page; and there are a lot of dumb answers and advises.
The best you could do now - go to immigration lawyer. Take a $100-$150 consultation and clarify all answers and the following strategies:
Alex, you did not do it well coming to USA without employer consent, so he has some defense. If you sue him he will argue that he DID NOT ask you to come; or even more ASKED NOT TO COME. if this was the case, it will be cheap for you to just pack the belongings and leave before you are here for 6 months; as staying longer will make you ineligble for any visa for next 3 to 10 years.
If you both agreed on day of arrival before and you came on day agreed and then was asked not to come to work - you can sue the employer at least for the cost of transportation. You can also sue him for money he must pay you until he officially fires you from work - because what he currently does is "bench sitting" - which is also not legal for him. So until he officially notifies you that he fired you, he must pay.
If you paid for H-1 fees then you could also try to file a police report on this matter - if the total of fees is less than what you paid then an employer could be responsible for the difference, and you can suspect that all he wanted is to rip you for these money (fraud). This will be especially true if his company profile does not match your skills (he is a restaurant and you are a doctor for example).
If you leave the country it will be very hard and expensive for you to sue him. So try changing to B2 or consider leaving the country and coming back later. Bad thing about going to B1/B2 status is that you claim you are going to leave the country afterwards; but you can actually change B1/B2 status to H1 but you should not mention you are going to actively look for another job as it is against your claim about leaving country after that.
Another your mistake is to look for H1 transfer. Since you never worked for any company on H1 you are not eligible for this type of petition. But a new employer can file a new petition and reference your approved but not yet used H1B approval so that you do not need to be counted, and on premium processing they will be able to get response in 2 weeks. It is as simple as transfer but it's not a transfer and most companies will not be able to do that without an attorney.
So generally I would advise you to use "attorney locators" service as you would pay much less for first consultation with an attorney then or could afford 3 consultations with different attorneys and choose the one who is actually willing to solve this case. You have two lawyers involved: immigration lawyer and labor lawyer and most probably you would need two of them. One to resolve your H1 issue with a new employer if you risk to stay and continue looking for a job, and another lawyer to sue your employer for transportation and probably first month check.
