I have several friends who were waiting for GC desparately and they thought it was the final destination. They had many reasons why to get GC and once they get, they will be free and can do / will do everything possible. But, once they got it, they settled in a permanent job. Without GC, they were working for the same client with even more pay and life was good if not better.
I was thinking the same way; because I am no different.
Oflate, I realised, I am un-necessarily worried about something which is not in my control. I realised that I am well paid, with this pay even the benefits I am not getting are compensated. Why am I worried? Should I be after GC in order to get peace of mind? I started looking it little differently. I am in this country to earn more money and live comfortably. I am already enjoying what I wanted. Then, why am I worried still? May be it is in human nature to always look for something which is not in the hands.
I still need GC for other things like Children education and get some other benefits (our education / starting business etc). I agree, but there is lot of time for that in my case. There are several people who are in the same state as me if not all. Everyone's needs are different.
I thought I will just share my ideas so that atleast some of the people will be happier.

As long as you are able to do what you want to do in life, that is what really matters. I don't have children yet, so that's not my worry. My spouse is on her own H1 and I hold two jobs on concurrent H1s.
Between the 3 jobs, we make good money, own two houses in the US, one overseas and live a content life. That's our GC, the actual GC is nice to have but it doesn't bother us that much...I bet there are plenty of GC holders out there who haven't gotten as far as I have...in terms of working 2 jobs & owning 2 houses.
So the moral of the story is, GC or no GC, live a good life, be content and don't miss out on the fun...don't let the GC fever bring you down..

I have talked to IV leadership and they have agreed to hold a rally in March 1st Week, if sufficient numbers indicate willingness to participate.

Section 245(i) is a part of the INA. In 2001, this section was updated to allow people present illegally to submit a labor certification. This resulted in the DOL getting 6 years worth of applications in April 2001. These applications led to the establishment of the Backlog Elimination Centers and the PERM process. The applications filed 6 years ago are still being processed by the DOL..

At this point I am neutral on the DREAM act. Before I can support the DREAM act you need to prove how it helps children of legal immigrants. I suspect there is more to your story than you are letting on. If you are 21 now, you would have been 19 in 2005 and well able to understand the consequences of becoming an illegal immigrant. As someone said the F1 was an option if you wanted to maintain legal status.
Iam in the very same position. I do not have kids and thus do little research on the acts pertaining to this situation. But I am all for doing my part, if someone can explain and provide relevant links on how this will impact the EB community. I have no qualms in admitting that Iam in IV only to support the EB cause (it also helps me). I do not want IV to take up a cause that will have a dilutive effect on EB cause.

Very well written article.
American have heard ad nauseum the concept of anchor babies from Lou Dobbs and his ilk.
We need to introduce them to the concept of "ANCHOR JOBS" ie what we do. We anchor the jobs of leading industries to the USA so that the rest of the economy can continue to flourish based on those jobs and the spin offs.
We need to let the ordinary american know that it is in his/her best interest for us to help keep cutting edge american industries here.
The few lazy american techies who make 6 figure salaries and yet still want more, need to be exposed for what they really are.............protectionist losers who put self interest above country. Unfortunate that they take that route rather than see the real shortages in the industries of tomorrow. They really are in pole position to make money out of it as well, if they just developed some entrepreneurship.

Yes you are right, there is bound to have EAD flood in market, with spouses of hi-tech worker will come to market to search hi-tech job with spouse phone support. I have seen such cases countless times in past few years and yes they will be in future without exception. However, matter of fact, these fresh EAD (previous H4) don't get the dream job in first attempt, it takes good 2 year to find a similar job that H1b hitech worker does.
But thats the realty of market, every year new jobs are added and every year new job seekers join the crowd.
On the otherside, a hitech worker is suppose to always learning something new and getting his/her position more stronger everyday, its a knowledge market, whoever knows more gets better $$. With my 7yr US exp and total 10 yrs CS exp I have no scare that any single fresh EAD will come close to me. A senior is always a senior no matter which field you talk.

He sent me an email to pay $3500, do you think he will go legal for this, I did not sign any contract with him.
If he goes to court will i loose(he may create documents) or will i be in trouble if he wins the case.

I don't think anybody will tell you for sure what the court will rule. Even if you pay a lawyer he will not tell you that - not in writing. Chances are that this will not even go to court and based the discussion on this thread its very unlikely if this will hold in any court.
BTW, how did he come up with the figure 3500? Is that the salary that was paid to you while you were working for another company? As somebody pointed out earlier if this was the money paid to you as compensation when you did not work for him then he might be reasonable in asking you to re-pay.

Congratulations! Though I don't know why it took you so many days, I could understand if it was the other way around (him explaining you). You should meet my wife and get some lessons. :) just kidding. Thanks for bringing in the whole team, great spirit.

OH Law firm did post the reliable and credible information from Chaerlie Openheim (VB in charge from state Dept) and his predictions for Oct 2007 VB are similar to the January 2007 VB.
Nothing new about this, lot of websites already published this information.
